Today's figure is the largest thing on the screen because it is what the day was about. Under it a week of bars, small on purpose — enough to see a shape, not enough to become something you tend. Then the last few lines you wrote, in your own words, with the time you wrote them.

Sign in with Apple if you want an account, and nothing at all if you do not — an account is optional, always, and is never needed to write a line. Entries are held on the device and move between your own devices through your own private iCloud, so there is no database of ours holding what you carried this week.

The two figures under the chart

One counts the days you have written in; the other totals the week. We would rather print what they are than claim a purity the app does not have: a day count is a streak, and this one will mark a round number when you reach it.

What it will not do is the part that hurts. Nothing scolds you for a blank evening, nothing is at stake, and no other person ever sees either figure — there is nobody to be behind. If a day count is still one thing too many, the tally underneath is what the program is for; ignore the rest.

What is not on this screen

There is no shared view, no invitation, no second column, and no partner's name anywhere — no ads, no partner-facing product, no scoreboard, which is a shape rather than a setting. Nothing is sent to anyone on your behalf, so there is no summary screen to show you either.

The only way the record leaves the phone is that you export it to CSV and hand it over yourself, on a day you choose.

Not yet released

iPhone, iOS 18 and later, with a home-screen widget and a watch app. The Ledger has not shipped yet, and it is not priced yet — the figure is published on the program page before launch and before anything can be bought. The register is how you hear about both.
